Accommodation on the Ypres Salient & The Somme

HOTEL ARIANE, Boezinge Straat, 8900 Ieper : Smart 4 star hotel with spacious en-suite rooms. Beautiful restaurant, bar, sauna and Jacuzzi. The hotel foyer contains many WW1 exhibits. THE RUM JAR BED AND BREAKFAST, Elverdingestraat 69, 8900 Ieper: Another excellent Bed and Breakfast run by ex-pat Peter Morris. Popular with smokers. The Rum Jar offers 2 double ensuite rooms and 1 twin en-suite room. MENIN GATE HOUSE. Self-catering house run by the chairmain of the Last Post Association. Thoroughly nice, well decorated and located 100m opposite the Menin Gate Memorial!

There is also a large camp site situated near the village of Kemmel about 5 miles from Ypres. The main site is open all year round and has a shop and bar. A children’s swimming pool is open during the summer months. It is ideally suited for traveling around the Ypres Salient Battlefields. Contact:

TALBOT HOUSE (TOC H), Gasthuisstraat 43, 8970 Poperinge: Beautiful 18th century house used extensively by thousands of allied soldiers during WW1. Rooms available today for self catering accommodation at an unbeatable price. Described as a living museum, the house is located about 250 meters from the town square of Poperinghe (10 miles west of Ypres). It really is THE place to stay for the battlefield tourist. VARLET FARM, Wallemolenstraat 43, 8920 Poelkappelle: Varlet Farm Bed and breakfast is located about 2 kilometers away from the famous village of Passchendaele (about 5 miles from Ypres). The original farm was destroyed in WW1. The modern farm is run by Charlotte and Dirk Cardoen-Descamps. They offer farm house accommodation and a barn converted into accommodation. It is certainly a place to stay for those Battlefield tourists who want to get away from everything. A beautiful farm that has a lot of things on display showing what modern day Belgian farmers discover in their fields! From Bullets to a German Maxim Machine-Gun! LE ROYAL PICARDIE, Avenue General Leclerc, 80300 Albert, France.

B&B’s / Self Catering.

‘LES ALOUETTES’, 10 Rue du Mantier, 80360 Hardecourt aux Bois, France.
Run by ex-pats Vic and Diane Piuk. The B&B has 3 available rooms and is a short drive from some of the main Somme Battle Sites. This French owned B&B located in the heart of Bernafay wood is the site of a former railway station. The wood itself features in the Battle of the Somme. The B&B has three available rooms and is owned by Christine and Jean-Pierre Matte. It offers a superb location and is in easy walking distance from Trones Wood, Montauban and Delville Wood.
